Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will perform a range of accounting, bookkeeping, transactional, and reporting functions. In this role, you will support and cover for the Senior Staff Accountant and the Director of Finance. Primary responsibilities include preparing insurance company financial statements, reconciling accounts, maintaining the general ledger, and executing month-end closing procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Input data to generate AR invoices, AP payments, vendor invoices, and corporate credit card payments.
- Verify, allocate, post, reconcile GL accounts, and prepare/post journal entries.
- Prepare ongoing premium and claims reporting (including quota share, IBNR, stop-loss premiums, and treaty years).
- Prepare bank deposits and assist the senior accountant with bank transfers and cash management.
- Establish new GLs, bank accounts, and Tax IDs for new insurance entities.
- Prepare annual reports for tax filings (1099, 8886, etc.) and support annual audit document requests.
- Generate schedule-driven financial statements, budget reports, and closing processes (month-end/year-end).
- Maintain organized paper and electronic files within SharePoint for the finance team.
Qualifications & Skills
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
- Previous experience as an accountant or bookkeeper is a plus.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, budgeting, and insurance-related experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel), Outlook, and SharePoint. Knowledge of Accounting Seed is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience in GAAP and statutory accounting are preferred, but not required.
