Oakland Park, FL
Monday thru Friday – 8 am to 5 pm
$15.38/hour to start
 
Benefits offered after probationary period.

General Purpose of the Position:
Provides employment services within the Wagner Peyser, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and Get There Faster Programs. Will ensure that qualified candidates are matched with roles that suit their skill level, experience, and desired career pathway. 
 
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide individualized employment counseling services to targeted/contracted groups.
  • Provide labor market information and/or other employment-related subjects and refer customers to supportive services as appropriate. 
  • Interview and assess customer needs, job skills, education, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Assist applicants in registering as appropriate for job search assistance or benefits. 
  • Use employment counseling techniques to assist customers in deciding on vocational goals and developing employability plans for entrance into employment.
  • Conduct comprehensive and specialized assessments to plan to identify employment goals for participants that will lead to sustained careers and self-sufficiency as needed.
  • Performs work and records activity and customer information in the current database system.
  • Provide instructions and assistance to customers utilizing services, systems, and information available in the Resource Room, along with other related computer data and programs.
  • May be assigned other responsibilities on a temporary or ongoing basis as necessary for the delivery of quality service within the Center.
 
Supervisory Controls and Guidelines
  • The incumbent reports directly to the Placement Department Supervisor.  The incumbent’s primary duty of performing office or non-manual work is directly related to providing job placement assistance to job seekers and assisting employers who have posted job orders. 
  • Areas of work are assigned, and the incumbent must use independent judgment to determine how to best achieve the established objectives.  The supervisor monitors the work performance. 
  • Incumbent must exercise discretion with respect to matters assigned.  Work is performed with specific guidance within broad general guidelines defined in local policies, State and Federal guidelines, communiqués relating to the WIOA Program and other related program requirements.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a social services / customer service environment. Experience in areas related to interviewing, counseling, job placement, aptitude testing and assessments, or job analysis is preferred.
  • Incumbent must be experienced in and demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. Incumbent must have prior experience achieving excellence and demonstrating continuous improvement.  Incumbent must be detail oriented. Strong ability and demonstrated experience in balancing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, working independently and as part of a team to achieve assigned tasks are required. 
  • Must be:  knowledgeable in all Microsoft Office applications and demonstrate proficiency in Word and Excel, possess the ability to utilize state workforce development databases and possess the ability to utilize the Internet to conduct research and obtain data.  
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employers, youth, other employees at all levels, and the general public are required. Requires the ability to analyze data, problem solve and understand complex situations and prepare reports.
