Pay: $34.00 per hour
Hours: Part-time/up to 32 hours a week
 
Assignment/Justification*
This position provides epidemiologic support for the Infectious Disease Epidemiology (IDE) program. Project activities include cleaning, analyzing, and summarizing hepatitis C surveillance data obtained via the Pennsylvania Electronic Disease Surveillance System (PA­NEDSS) and data collected during enhanced case investigations by ACHD public health nurses. The contractor will also analyze data on hospitalizations, organ transplants, and deaths to describe the burden of hepatitis C sequelae and other infections related to intravenous drug use. These activities help the IDE program identify and monitor infectious disease trends, assess disease severity, and inform efforts to reduce further disease transmission within the county. Publicly available summary reports developed by the contractor will inform the community about steps to protect their health. The individual in this position will also work with members of Hep C Free Allegheny to monitor progress toward hepatitis C elimination goals and assist the ACHD STI clinic with expanded hepatitis C testing and treatment activities.
 
Qualifications/Duties
  • Monitor the implementation of enhanced hepatitis C surveillance initiatives
  • Use statistical software to clean, analyze, and summarize hepatitis C surveillance data
  • Create and conduct quality assurance on monthly hepatitis C surveillance reports
  • Describe trends in hospital admissions associated with hepatitis C and bacterial infection related to intravenous drug use
  • Estimate the prevalence of hepatitis C in Allegheny County
  • Develop and implement procedures for measuring hepatitis C elimination efforts in Allegheny County
  • Prepare epidemiologic reports, including geospatial analyses, for internal and external audiences; update the Hepatitis C Epi Profile for Allegheny County
  • Participate in statewide viral hepatitis elimination meetings
  • Update enhanced hepatitis C surveillance procedures and training materials using CDC, DOH and IDE program guidance
  • Inform community partners of the hepatitis C services available
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Educational/Experience Requirements:
  • A master's degree or equivalent in epidemiology or biostatistics or a master’s degree or equivalent in public health, nursing, or biomedical sciences with a graduate level course equivalent to 6-semester credits epidemiology and 3 credits biostatistics and at least one year of experience in conducting public health epidemiology projects and/or investigations.
  • Must have a background in statistical analyses.
  • Experience cleaning and analysis in a programming environment (SAS. SPSS, Stata or R). Developing reports for professional audiences.
